Dharmadam Island

Dharmadam Thuruthu in Thalasseri offers a unique experience to the tourists. It is a small island with an area of six acres surrounded by the Arabian Sea on all sides. Dharmadam offers a glimpse of the true beauty of Kerala with coconut trees and dense vegetation visible from the Muzhappilangad beach. At low tide it is possible to walk across the sea to the island. If there is no tide, the sea is so calm that you can get your feet wet. When we arrive, we will have the feeling of being in another world. Despite being surrounded by sea water, fresh water is available to tourists from a well on the island. There is a distance of 150 meters from the sea shore to Thuruthu in Dharmadam Panchayat.

If those who walk across the sea at low tide do not reach the shore before the high tide, the travelers have to wait in the shore until the next low tide. Tourists mostly choose private boats to reach Thuruthu. Thuruthu is located at a distance of 3.5 km from Thalasseri and 10 km from Kannur. Tourists coming from Kannur can take a scenic trip along the three and a half kilometer long Muzhupilangad driving beach, cross the nearby Moitu bridge and take the road on the right side to reach the Dharmadam festival center. Tourists coming from Thalasseri side can visit Thalasseri Fort and Overbury’s Folly, Sea View Park and Centenary Park and reach Dharmadam by taking the road in front of Old Dharma Theater via Dharmadam Meethale Peetika.
