Kumarakom

Kumarakom, a part of Kuttanad, is an amazing sight-seeing paradise nestled among the verdant islands along the Vembanad backwater. Kumarakom is a cool place to enjoy the lake views. Kumarakom is a paradise of natural beauty like mangrove forests, emerald green paddy fields, mesmerizing waterways through the banana plantations and the decorative white amber flowers. Kumarakom is located below the sea level and therefore Kumarakom is known as the Netherlands of Kerala.

The greenery of the paddy fields and coconut groves created by filling the lake for agriculture adds to the beauty of Kumarakom. Resorts here offer comfortable accommodation and recreational activities like boating, fishing, swimming, yoga and meditation. Kumarakom is about 15 km from Kottayam town. Another factor that attracts tourists to Kumarakom is the bird sanctuary spread over 14 acres. Here we can see many endangered birds. Here you don’t have to rely on houseboats for sightseeing.
